Breakout and Glue

If there is one city that is doing anything near the level of what is happening in Atlanta right now, that city would be Austin. There is something real happening out there. Music is being created from a place of alienation: dis-associative noise created by people that get shit. With bands like Institute, Glue, Impalers, and of course Breakout. How could you not be slightly interested in what is happening down in Bat City?

I lived in Austin for about 7 months in 2012. I really blame myself for the disdain that I created surrounding the city. I worked a job that was too far out and not really for me. I was a real stick-in-the -ass sorta guy back then and couldn't wrap my head around the idea or concept that I was more than that. It ruined any experience that I could have or actually had there. Now, I'm kicking myself in the butt-hole for it. The people and bands out there have created something that is better than most music happening in any other city, except for Atlanta.

Basically, don't be a sucker. Do drugs, get out of bed, request off work, quit your job, do whatever it is you have to do but don't miss out on the cool shit that is happening down the block.

These are the bands from Austin that are playing here over the next couple of weeks. They are playing with bands from this town that are doing the same truly amazing things that I ignored out there.

Breakout
This is from their Local Live performance and their record that came out this year.

Glue
Glue played here last year right after I first moved to town. It was at this house off of South Moreland. I still think it was the best show I have seen since I moved to town. This is the 7" they put out this year and a video of this wild ass show it Boston. It rules.

Also, if you wanna hear it everytime your mom calls. Here is a ringtone I made.

2014, What The Fuck.

2014, as much as I would like to think of every year as a giant piece of shit, this one has turned out to be not so bad. Atlanta, has been so on point with music and multiple bands from this city went onto my mix for the end of the year. Dasher, Uniform, Predator, Wymyns Prysyn, GHB, RAPTUROUS GRIEF, GG KING, SCAVENGER OF DEATH RECORDS, NO BREAKS/MUCKMAN RECORDS, Nurse, Slugga, Hawks and I'm sure there are a few more that I am forgetting about, have made this city the place to get real wild in 2014.  To end this bad boy of a year, Josh Feigert put together a sick show of the bands that got started this year and Breakout from Austin. Here is a link to the show info, I'll update the calendar on here soon, this show is on Dec. 30th at the Earl. and to get the New Year started off right, January 7th is this show, it is going to be a real fuck off.

When I was living in Gainesville, FL. I got a small book by Aaron Cometbus and Travis Fristoe about this Radon LP. It is a great record and both of the above mentioned are really good writers with a flair for really capturing a great thought from mostly irrelevant parts of everyday life. The main thing that this book really captured was the relationship between good music and good people and how the two CAN be mutually exclusive. In punk, we have the tendency to overlook mediocre music because of the caliber of person that is creating that music. It really made me think that maybe my judgement has been clouded.

Being new to this city and coming to know people AFTER I knew their music makes me realize what a truly special place this city really is. Our bands are better, our neighborhoods are cooler, our rent is cheaper and our Tea is sweeter. When one house venue shuts down, Daniel's House, two more show up in its place, Hill Street and the Cunt Cave. We record our own bands, we put out our own records and we push each other to do something that matters, sometimes. THIS IS ATLANTA AND WE RULE OK!

Here is the mix of some of the songs that were pretty solid from this past year.

This World Don't Live in Me

Alright, so this is day 3 of being completely fucking blind. Not in a goof sort of way, without my contacts, my vision is 20/400. I am starting to go nuts. Luckily for me, Remote Outposts exists. If you haven't checked this blog out, I seriously recommend that you do. Greg Harvester always seems to inspire me to do something when I am in a rut. Plus, the music he posts is just on point.

So, with my vision being completely fucked, I can't do any drawing so I decided to fuck with my favorite new release, the Uniform Demo. You can buy the original bad boy over at the State Laughter site.

Uniform is Josh and Bobby from Wymyns Prysyn, Dave from Stepdad SS and Dasher, and Matt from Cheap Art and Slugga. Since drawing is not a possibility right now, I decided to try and do to this recording what I do with all Slugga recordings, make them sound shittier. THIS IS NOT THE ORIGINAL RECORDING THAT IS ON THE DEMO TAPE! This is my fucked up version of it. Check it out and then go buy the good version from State Laughter.

Josh seriously outdid himself with the artwork on this one. Al hand done and pasted on the jewel case. It is really amazing and a challenge to all of us goons to make something half as good.

Here is the original artwork taken from the state laughter website:

Here is my version of the recodring:

SKKKIIIIIINNNNNHEEAAAAAAAAAAADDDDD

The first hundred or so times that I listened to this song I thought that instead of Ruby saying "Feeding",  he was saying "Skinhead".

RUBY RECORD VOCALS FOR THE NEW MERCENARY SHIT ALREADY.

This is cool:

Head in a Vice

ALRIGHT SCUMBAGS,

This is my attempt to capture some of what is going on in Atlanta right now. A freaking shit show of freaks playing in some of the best bands that are happening right now. if you look up top, there is a calendar that has all the shows happening that i know about. If you want me to add stuff email it to sluggaskum@gmail.com.

So, with that being said, this is the new Wymyns Prysyn LP. This is seriously the densest compilation of killer riffs, on point vocals and sick as shit artwork that I have seen come from a band in a real long time. This is by far the best of all the Atlanta bands happening right now and they make me wanna stomp around like a mad man everytime they play. Just listen to the freaking drums on the opening track!

Fan made video of some cool shit (This shit isnt on the New LP but who gives a shit, it rules):

here is the whole album from the muckman website
